Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) Reference Solution with Infineon 16-bit XC166 Family Microcontrollers and DSP

Infineon Technologies offers an extensive product portfolio for Industrial Power Conversion Systems - from real time embedded Microcontrollers to Smart Power ICs which are capable to control any Industrial Control System.

The UPS reference solution is complete reference solution offering outstanding Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) performance and high efficiency to achieve excellent closed loop response.

    • 50µs per interrupt for A/D conversion, Error/Offset and duty cycle calculation

  • IGBT Module – IGBT H-Bridge in ECONOPACK
    • Achieved lower stray inductance and reduced switch-off voltage stress on IGBT
    • Enhanced inrush current withstand capability
    • 88.5% efficiency at 40KHz modulation frequency (IGBT @ 20KHz)

 
Powered by a high performance 16-bit XC164CM Microcontroller with DSP and the IGBT H-Bridge in ECONOPACK Module, this reference solution offers a modularized design structure that is well-suited for Online UPS development as shown in Figure 1.

Infineon’s ECONOPACK IGBT Modules are compact solution with low stray inductance for the double conversion UPS with full bridge topology (Figure 2).

Using a H-bridge Unipolar PWM Modulation technique, the IGBT ECONOPACK Module can double the modulation frequency of the inverter, reduce the switching loss and improve the system efficiency, leading to system performance improvement system cost reduction as shown in Figure 3.
